A quarterback’s ability to move within the pocket avoid the rush and find a throwing lane is a key to his success. It’s great when the QB can make his drop, plant his back foot and make a throw. This all starts with his footwork.
Pocket passing can really up your game in the crunch time. Tom Brady is one of the best pocket passers in the league. You must be alert and step up into the pocket and throw.
Have the Qb start in front or behind the bag. Blow the whistle to start his rapid feet. Move the QB around and over the bag. Be sure the Qb is stepping with his back foot first when moving around the pocket. Once the Qb has worked through all the motions, clap for ball. The Qb will step up and throw. His base should not change nor should his ball placement.
You can intensify the drill by throwing excercise balls at the qb or hitting the qb with pool noodles.
Sprint out or roll out passing is getting more popular every year with more moblie quarter backs. This type of play calling gives the qb a chance to run the ball if he sees fit.
sprint out around the cones with ball ready to throw. with feet still moving, turn your shoulders and throw to a target (reciever). Be sure to really turn the shoulders and finish through. Eyes should be down field.
A quarterback’s ability to move within the pocket and avoid the rush is a defenses worst nightmare. Having the ability to scamble extends the play for a positive run/pass.
Like the 1 bag drill, work the qb around a bag but instead of him throwing the ball send him out left or right. He will take the path of the sprint out drill, turn your shoul- ders and throw to a target (reciever).
